Jersey Sweater History

A jersey sweater is usually knitted flat in horizontal rows with one continual length of yarn. A wool jersey is knitted in sections (i.e. back, front and sleeves) by machine (in a factory, by one person in their own premises, or home working on single garments), or by hand (using two long single-pointed needles to work on one item). The sections are joined together with seams at the sides and along the sleeves. The collar (which can be square, round or vee shaped) is added when the jersey is almost complete, together with any additional decorations such as embroidery, Swiss darning, or buttons and sequins.
